Roast Turkey (in an Electric Roaster)

Roasting Turkey in an electric roaster is the best way to make Thanksgiving turkey! Fool-proof results, no basting and saves on oven space!

  • 18 pound whole turkey , defrosted
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter , softened
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity and pat it dry.
  2. Remove the rack from the roaster oven.
  3. Place turkey in the roaster, breast side up.
  4. Rub the turkey with the butter and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cover the roaster and cook at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
  6. Lower the heat to 325 degrees and cook for 3 1/2 - 4 hours until a thermometer reads 165 degrees in the thickest part of the turkey thigh.
