Root Beer Floats

Root Beer Floats combine creamy vanilla ice cream with fizzy root beer to create a classic frosty treat. The slow pouring technique helps manage the carbonation, reducing foam overflow and maintaining balance between the creamy and soda components. Topped with whipped cream and a cherry, this drink mixes cold, sweet, and lightly fizzy textures and flavors, making it a nostalgic and refreshing indulgence.

Description

Root Beer Floats are made by layering vanilla ice cream and root beer to produce a creamy, fizzy drink. Freezing the glass beforehand enhances the coldness, while gently pouring the root beer against the glass reduces excess foam. The whipped cream topping adds lightness and a creamy finish, balanced by the sweet, slightly spicy flavors of the root beer. The inclusion of a maraschino cherry gives a classic touch to the presentation.

The texture combines the smoothness of melting ice cream with the bubbly effervescence of carbonated root beer, delivering a contrast that makes this beverage pleasant and fun to enjoy. Using a tall glass allows room for the ice cream to float as the soda settles.

For best results, serve immediately with a straw and spoon. The recipe suggests using a long-handled spoon to easily scoop softened ice cream, enhancing the drinking and eating experience. This treat is especially enjoyable on warm days or as a nostalgic dessert drink.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 coops vanilla ice cream about 1 c.
  • 8 ounces root beer
  • Whipped Cream
  • maraschino cherry

Instructions

  1. Freeze your glasses prior to use for an extra frosty treat. We recommend using a tall glass, like a float glass or beer stein.
  2. Remove glasses from the freezer. Add the ice cream to the glass and then slowly pour root beer into the glass. Try to pour the root beer at an angle up against the glass to reduce fizz and risk of overflow. If there is a lot of fizz let it recede and then add more root beer to the glass.
  3. Top with whipped cream and cherry! Serve with straws and spoons.

Notes

  • Pour root beer slowly down the side of the glass to minimize foam and avoid overflow.
  • Use a long-handled spoon to scoop softened ice cream easily while drinking through a straw.
  • Freezing glasses beforehand adds extra chill for a frosty experience.
