Sage and Onion Stuffing

Report
Sage and Onion Stuffing combines sautéed onions with dried sage and breadcrumbs, bound by egg and baked until golden and firm. The butter-softened onions impart sweetness and moisture, while sage adds an earthy, aromatic note. Formed into balls and baked, this stuffing develops a crisp exterior and soft interior, complementing roast meats or festive meals.

Description

The recipe begins by melting butter in a pan and gently cooking finely chopped onions until softened but not browned. These onions are mixed with dried sage and breadcrumbs to infuse herbal flavor and create textural substance. Seasoned simply with salt and black pepper, the mixture is bound with whisked egg ensuring the stuffing holds shape.

After cooling slightly, the mixture is shaped into small balls and placed in a greased dish. Baking at moderate oven temperature yields stuffing balls with a golden crust and tender crumb inside. This method ensures even cooking and a sturdy texture suitable for serving alongside roasts or in stuffing bags.

The combination of buttery onions and sage delivers classic savory flavor, with the egg breadcrumb base providing structure. These stuffing balls can be served as a side or accompaniment in traditional holiday dinners.
