Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats
Description
This recipe begins by melting butter and most of the marshmallows over low heat, then stirring in smooth peanut butter to create a creamy base. Rice Krispies cereal and the remaining marshmallows are folded in to provide crunch and a chewy texture. The mixture is pressed into a pan to set.
A caramel sauce made from unwrapped caramels and heavy cream is microwaved until smooth and spread over the set Krispie treats. Coarse sea salt is sprinkled on top to introduce a savory balance to the sweetness. Chilling helps the caramel set before cutting into bars.
The result is a textural mix of soft marshmallow, crunchy cereal, rich peanut butter, and sweet-salty caramel layers. These treats make convenient snacks or dessert bars and store well for several days when kept in an airtight container.
