Sausage Sizzle

The sausage sizzle, sausage in bread or sausage sandwich, is a popular Australian and New Zealand event in which sausages are grilled.

Ingredients

  • 4 beef sausages or pork sausages, thin
  • 1 onion , cut into thin rings
  • tomato sauce
  • mustard
  • 4 white sandwich bread large slices
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • butter (or margarine, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Bring the sausages to a grill, preferably a wood-fired barbecue, and grill them, turning them every 5 minutes until the desired doneness is achieved.
  2. Add the oil in a pan or on a hotplate, then add the onions.
  3. Using kitchen tongs, mix the onions until golden brown.
  4. When the sausages are cooked, spread, on the chosen bread, butter or margarine, to taste, then the onions, and add a split sausage.
  5. Finally add tomato sauce and mustard on top.
