Sauteed Cinnamon Apples Recipe
Description
This recipe uses peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples prepared by sautéing in melted unsalted butter until they begin to soften. A cornstarch slurry is mixed with water and added along with honey and cinnamon, which creates a lightly thickened sauce as the apples simmer for a few additional minutes until tender.
The cooking method preserves some texture in the apples while the honey and cinnamon provide sweetness and spice without overpowering the fruit. The sauce has a gentle thickness that coats the apple slices.
These sautéed apples can be served warm as a side dish with pork or poultry or as a simple dessert. They store well in the refrigerator for up to five days and freeze for up to three months in an airtight container.
Any crisp apple variety may be used, though sweetness level may require adjusting the honey amount accordingly.
