See's Fudge Copycat Recipe

This See's Fudge Copycat recipe combines milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate chips, butter, and marshmallow creme into a smooth, creamy candy. A cooked sugar and evaporated milk mixture is incorporated to create a firm, glossy fudge with a rich chocolate flavor. It sets overnight in the refrigerator into a sliceable sweet treat.

Description

The recipe begins by buttering a baking dish and preparing a chocolate mixture of milk chocolate pieces, semi-sweet chocolate chips, butter, and marshmallow creme.

Separately, sugar and evaporated milk are boiled together while stirring, then removed from heat and flavored with vanilla. This hot mixture is gradually stirred into the chocolate mixture to create a smooth batter.

The fudge mixture is poured into the prepared dish and refrigerated overnight until firm. This process yields a dense, creamy fudge with a blend of milk and semi-sweet chocolate sweetness balanced by the marshmallow's smoothness.

Keeping the fudge refrigerated maintains its texture until serving. The use of specific chocolate brands, such as Hershey bars and Guittard chips, contributes to the flavor but can be adapted.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 ounces milk chocolate (I use two 8 ounce Hershey bars broken into pieces)
  • 24 ounces chocolate chips I use the Guittard brand, semi-sweet
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 (7-ounce) jar marshmallow creme
  • 4 ¼ cups sugar
  • 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Butter a 9x13-inch glass baking dish. Set aside. Combine milk chocolate, chocolate chips, butter, and marshmallow in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine sugar and evaporated milk. Bring to a rolling boil over medium heat. Stir constantly at a rolling boil for 4 minutes with a wooden spoon. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  3. Pour the evaporated milk mixture over the chocolate mixture in several intervals, stirring constantly to keep the fudge from clumping.
  4. Continue stirring until well blended and smooth.
  5. Pour into prepared baking dish. Cover tightly and refrigerate for several hours or overnight, until hardened. Keep refrigerated until you serve.

Notes

  • Use two large Hershey bars broken into pieces for the milk chocolate component.
  • Guittard semi-sweet chocolate chips are recommended for the chocolate chips portion.
