Sesame Orange Broccoli

Sesame Orange Broccoli delivers crisp-tender broccoli florets coated in a glossy sauce combining fresh orange juice and zest with soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. The dish is finished with scallions, sesame seeds, and optional red pepper flakes for a balance of citrus brightness, savory depth, and mild heat, making it a flavorful vegetable side.

Description

The recipe begins by briefly boiling broccoli florets until bright green and slightly tender, then shocking them in ice water to preserve color and stop cooking. A sauce made from fresh orange juice and zest, soy sauce, and dissolved cornstarch is prepared separately to provide a lightly thickened glaze. Sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and scallions are sautéed briefly in a hot wok or skillet to release their aromas before adding the sauce and broccoli to heat through and coat evenly.

Sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds and, optionally, red pepper flakes, the broccoli marries fresh citrus notes with savory and aromatic Asian-inspired flavors. This side dish pairs well with rice or other main courses needing a bright vegetable component.

The recipe yields about three cups and is best served immediately to maintain the broccoli’s crisp texture.
