Shamrock Shake

The Shamrock Shake combines vanilla ice cream, whipping cream, and mint extract to create a thick, pastel green mint-flavored shake. Its creamy texture and mild mint flavor are balanced with vanilla extract and tinted with food coloring for a festive look. Topped with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry, it offers a classic minty treat often enjoyed during spring.

Description

The Shamrock Shake recipe blends vanilla ice cream with whipping cream and mint extract, resulting in a rich and creamy mint-flavored milkshake. The use of vanilla or chocolate extract adds a subtle background flavor, while green gel or liquid food coloring gives it a light pastel hue. The shake is thick, so it is blended until smooth but remains rich and dense.

Produced in individual servings, it is garnished with whipped cream, colorful candy sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry for decorative sweetness. The fresh mint extract is essential for achieving the authentic mint flavor, and the coloring should be added gradually to reach a soft green tint rather than a dark shade.

This shake is typically served immediately in glasses after blending, making it a refreshing frozen beverage with a velvety texture and festive appearance.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 ½ cups vanilla ice cream 365g
  • ¾ cup whipping cream 180ml
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or chocolate extract, optional
  • mint extract to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Green Gel Food Coloring or 2 teaspoons liquid coloring
  • Whipped Cream for garnish
  • candy sprinkles
  • maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Scoop ice cream and place inside blender.
  2. Pour in whipping cream and add the food coloring.
  3. Add in mint extract and vanilla extract (if using) and blend until smooth. (Note: this shake will be thick).
  4. Pour into glasses, top with whipping cream, sprinkles and a cherry, then serve.

Notes

  • Use mint extract rather than peppermint extract for authentic flavor, adding it in small amounts and adjusting to taste.
  • Add green food coloring gradually to achieve a pale pastel green rather than a deep green.
  • Top the shake with whipped cream, green sugar sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry to complete the classic presentation.
