Shredded Chicken Sliders
Description
This Sliders recipe assembles shredded chicken and sliced provolone cheese between halved Hawaiian rolls arranged in a baking dish. The rolls are cut into individual slider portions before baking. A glaze made from melted butter, honey, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, and salt is brushed over the tops, which caramelizes in the oven, adding a glossy, flavorful finish.
Baking at 350°F allows the cheese to melt thoroughly and the tops of the rolls to achieve a golden brown color, complementing the savory filling with a slight sweetness and tang. The Hawaiian rolls provide a soft, slightly sweet base that balances the savory chicken and cheese.
These sliders are convenient for serving multiple guests in a casual setting, easy to prepare ahead of time, and can be doubled in quantity for larger groups. Cutting between the rolls before baking helps maintain individual portions while keeping the sliders together.
The recipe uses rotisserie chicken for ease but can adapt to other cooked chicken. The glaze not only adds flavor but helps keep the tops moist.
Ingredients
For the sliders
- 12 hawaiian rolls
- 2 heaping cups chicken I use rotisserie chicken, shredded
- 4 ounces provolone cheese sliced
For the glaze
- 2 tablespoons butter melted (salted or unsalted)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350˚F.
- Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and lay the bottoms of the rolls in a baking dish.
- Spread the shredded chicken evenly over the bottom of the rolls. Add the provolone cheese slices on top of the chicken. Lay the top of the rolls over the cheese layer. Use a serrated knife to cut between all the rolls.
- Make the glaze by combining the melted butter with the honey, dijon, poppy seeds and salt. Whisk until completely combined.
- Spread the glaze over the tops and in between the rolls. Then, bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
Notes
- For larger groups, double the recipe and bake in a 9x13 inch casserole dish to make 24 sliders.
- Rotisserie chicken provides easy shredded chicken but any pre-cooked chicken can be used.
- Cutting between the rolls before baking keeps sliders together and makes serving easy.
