Shrimp Saganaki with Pepper Spread

Shrimp Saganaki with Pepper Spread features sautéed shrimp fillets flavored with salt and pepper, served alongside a sautéed vegetable sauce made from onions, red and green peppers, garlic, and a sweet-spicy pepper spread enhanced with tomato paste, sugar, and ouzo. A smooth feta mousse made from feta, cream cheese, heavy cream, and brine complements the dish with creamy, tangy notes.

Description

This recipe begins by preparing shrimp fillets removed from their shells and deveined, then sautéed briefly with olive oil, salt, and black pepper. The sauce is created by sautéing onion, garlic, and mixed peppers, then simmering with a pepper spread, tomato paste, sugar, and ouzo to meld the flavors and develop a rich, slightly sweet and tangy sauce highlighted by the anise flavor of ouzo.

The dish is served with a feta mousse made by blending feta cheese, cream cheese, heavy cream, and brine to create a creamy, tangy accompaniment that contrasts the textures and flavors of the shrimp and sauce. Fresh parsley added to the sauce at the end brightens the overall presentation.
