Simple Caramel Cookies

Simple Caramel Cookies blend a buttery caramel base with brown and white sugars to create a soft, chewy texture with a lightly crisp edge. These cookies rely on caramelizing the sugars and butter before mixing with flour and baking soda, resulting in a warm caramel flavor infused throughout. The dough's pliability requires prompt handling before it cools and hardens, allowing easy scooping and shaping. Enjoy these cookies as a sweet treat with tea, coffee, or as a casual dessert.

Description

Simple Caramel Cookies combine butter, cream, granulated and dark brown sugars, and vanilla into a caramel mixture warmed just until bubbling. Once slightly cooled, sifted flour and baking soda are added to form a dough. This dough is quickly scooped and pressed flat on baking sheets before baking at 350°F for about 15 minutes, until golden brown. The finished cookies offer a soft, tender crumb with caramel undertones and a slight crispness on the edges. Working swiftly with the warm dough prevents it from becoming too firm to shape. After baking, cooling on the sheet and then a wire rack helps retain the cookies' texture. These cookies make a straightforward caramel-flavored treat with simple pantry ingredients and an approachable method suitable for home baking.
