Skillet Cookie Recipe

The skillet cookie recipe uses store-bought chocolate chip cookie dough pressed into a cast iron skillet and baked until golden brown with a set center. The result is a thick, chewy cookie with crisp edges, ideal for sharing. Serving it warm with scoops of ice cream adds cold creaminess that contrasts with the warm, soft cookie texture. This approach simplifies making a large, shareable dessert using ready dough and easy baking methods.

Description

This recipe transforms pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough into a large skillet cookie by pressing it evenly into a well-oiled cast iron skillet. Baking at moderate grill or oven temperatures allows for an evenly golden top and a center that sets without overbaking, keeping the cookie chewy and soft inside with crisp edges. The skillet acts as a heat retainer, so cooling is necessary before serving to ensure slices hold their shape.

The dessert is best enjoyed warm, paired with generous scoops of ice cream to balance the warm cookie with cold creaminess and enhance the chocolate chip flavor. Using store-bought dough simplifies preparation and guarantees ingredient quality and consistency.

The recipe suits those who want a homemade feel with minimal prep and cleanup and works well for casual gatherings or as a family treat.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 1/2 tubes Chocolate Chip Cookie dough brand Great Value, ready to bake
  • 3-4 coops Ice cream Great Value brand

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill to 350 or oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Oil a seasoned cast iron skillet.
  3. Press cookie dough into skillet.
  4. For grill: Place onto grill, close grill and bake for approximately 15-20 minutes. If possible to use only one burner, and move skillet to cooler side of grill, that seems to work best. Otherwise just make sure to check often starting around ten minutes. You are looking for a golden brown top and a center that has started to set.
  5. For oven: Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes. You are looking for a golden brown top and a center that has started to set.
  6. Carefully remove pan from grill or oven, using caution as the skillet will be hot.
  7. Allow to cool for approximately 10-15 minutes. If desired scoop out individual pieces and top with ice cream or simply add Great Value Ice Cream to the top of cookie and share, just be careful, the skillet retains heat.
