Slow Cooker Baked Apples Recipe
Description
To prepare, apples are washed and cored carefully, preserving the base to hold the filling. The filling blends softened unsalted butter with vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, chopped walnuts, and raisins, providing a mix of warm spices, sweetness, and crunch. Apples are filled evenly with this mixture and placed upright in a slow cooker containing honey-sweetened water.
The apples cook on low for 2 to 4 hours or on high for 1½ to 2 hours, until tender but not falling apart. This gentle cooking softens the apples and melds the flavors. Serving the baked apples topped with vanilla ice cream adds a creamy, cool contrast.
Ingredients
- 6 apple medium
- 1 cup water
- 3 tablespoons honey
Stuffing:
- 1/2 cup butter unsalted, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
- 1/2 cup raisins
Instructions
- Mix one cup of water with three tablespoons of honey and pour the mixture into the crockpot.
- Wash well and core the apples, being careful to leave the bottom intact. Scoop some of the flesh to make a well that will hold the filling.
- In a small bowl, mix together all the filling ingredients. Fill the apples with the mixture, distributing it evenly among the six apples.
- Arrange the apples in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 2-4 hours or on HIGH for 1 ½ - 2 hours or until the apples are soft enough to serve.
- Once done, transfer the apples to a plate and top with vanilla ice cream before serving.
