Slow Cooker Chocolate Turtles

Slow Cooker Chocolate Turtles combine chopped pecans, melted almond bark, chocolate chips, and baking chocolate into a smooth, rich mixture that is spooned over unwrapped Rolo candies. The mixture slowly melts to create a layered treat of crunchy nuts, gooey caramel, and creamy chocolate, which hardens into a festive confection. This recipe uses a slow cooker to gently melt the ingredients together and allows easy portioning with a scoop for even coverage on the candies.

Description

Slow Cooker Chocolate Turtles bring together pecans, several types of melting chocolate, and Rolos to create a unique and textured candy treat. The chopped pecans provide crunch while the combination of almond bark, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and a baking chocolate bar melts slowly in the crock pot for a smooth, creamy coating. Rolos form a caramel center that is topped with the melted chocolate-nut mixture, and optional sprinkles add a decorative touch.

The melting process is gentle, taking 1.5 to 2 hours on low in the slow cooker, which ensures the chocolate doesn't burn and combines evenly when stirred. Parchment-lined baking sheets hold the Rolo candies spaced apart to catch the nutty chocolate topping, which cools and hardens to a firm shell around the caramel. This layered texture contrasts the crunchy nuts, smooth chocolate, and chewy caramel for a satisfying bite.

These turtles work well for gifting, parties, or holiday treats due to their easy preparation and attractive appearance. The recipe can be adapted by swapping Rolos for caramels to adjust the caramel intensity. Sprinkles add a festive final touch but are optional. Cooling them until fully hardened is important for handling and presentation.

For ease, use a cookie scoop to portion the chocolate mixture evenly on each candy. If a scoop isn’t available, a heaping tablespoon works as a substitute. Substituting caramels increases the caramel presence in each bite, providing a sweeter option.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 cups pecans chopped
  • 32 ounces almond bark
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • 6 ounce chocolate baking bar
  • 24 ounces Rolo candies unwrapped
  • Sprinkles optional

Instructions

  1. Place pecans, almond bark, chocolate chips, and chocolate baking bar in a crock pot that is set to LOW.
  2. Heat candy for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until melted. Uncover and stir the chocolate mixture until evenly combined.
  3. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  4. Lay Rolos on the prepared baking sheets 2-inches apart.
  5. Use a small cookie scoop to scoop the chocolate pecan mixture from the slow cooker. Place the chocolate on top of the Rolo. Repeat until all the Rolos are covered.
  6. If desired, top each candy with sprinkles. Allow the chocolate turtles to cool until hardened.

Notes

  • Use a cookie scoop for easier and more uniform chocolate mixture portions onto each Rolo.
  • Caramel flavor intensity can be increased by substituting caramels for Rolos.
