Slow Cooker General Tso's Chicken
Description
This version of General Tso's Chicken uses boneless skinless chicken breast cut into bite-sized pieces and coated in a corn starch mixture seasoned with salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. After briefly sautéing to brown the coating, the chicken is transferred to a slow cooker along with half the prepared sauce, which includes hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, minced garlic, water, and crushed red pepper flakes.
The chicken cooks on low for four hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the coating to soften while thickening the sauce. Just before serving, the remaining sauce is stirred in to intensify flavor. The dish is typically served over steamed or fried rice, offering a sticky, flavorful entrée with hints of sweet, sour, and heat.
This approach simplifies preparation by using the slow cooker while maintaining the core taste elements associated with General Tso's Chicken.
