Slow Cooker Kielbasa and Sauerkraut
Description
Slow Cooker Kielbasa and Sauerkraut is a one-pot meal centered on smoked kielbasa sausages cut into chunks, combined with drained sauerkraut and a mix of aromatic and flavorful additions including sliced yellow onions, minced garlic, brown sugar, and spicy brown mustard. Light beer is poured over the ingredients to add depth and aid slow cooking. Simmering on low for several hours allows the kielbasa to become tender while the flavors mingle, creating a dish with savory, tangy, and slightly sweet layers. The sauerkraut offers a pronounced acidity complementing the rich sausage.
Resulting in a warm, rustic entrée, this dish works well served straight from the slow cooker, often alongside hearty bread or potatoes to soak up the juices. Its bold flavors and ease of preparation make it practical for busy home cooks who want a filling meal with minimal active cooking time.
Leftovers maintain their flavor well when stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to five days. For those who prefer, substitutions like chicken broth or apple juice can replace the beer without compromising the core flavor profile.
Ingredients
- 28 oz kielbasa cut into 1-2 inch size pieces
- 32 oz sauerkraut drained
- 1 yellow onion sliced, small
- 2 teaspoons garlic minced
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon brown mustard spicy
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 12 oz light beer or pilsner beer
Instructions
- Add the kielbasa to a 6 quart crock pot. Pour the drained sauerkraut on top.
- Then top with the onions, minced garlic, brown sugar, spicy brown mustard, salt and pepper.
- Pour the beer on top. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
