Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef

Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef features thinly sliced flank steak coated in cornstarch and cooked slowly in a savory sauce made from soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and toasted sesame oil. The beef becomes tender and richly flavored as it simmers, while the addition of green onions at the end adds freshness and a mild crunch. This method allows the sauce to thicken slightly and coat the meat well, delivering a balanced touch of sweetness and umami with minimal hands-on cooking.

Description

Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef uses flank steak that is thinly sliced against the grain and dusted with cornstarch to help create a slight crust and thicken the sauce. The sauce blends low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, toasted sesame oil, fresh garlic, and ginger to build a fragrant base. Cooking the dish in a slow cooker on low or high heat allows the beef to cook gently and absorb the sauce flavors, yielding tender meat.

The texture of the beef becomes soft yet slightly chewy with a glossy sauce coating. Adding green onions last provides a mild sharpness and color contrast. This recipe serves well over steamed rice or alongside stir-fried vegetables, offering a satisfying balance between savory and sweet notes.

The slow cooker approach allows for easy preparation and unattended cooking time, making this dish convenient for busy schedules without sacrificing flavor development.
