Slow Cooker Sesame Chicken
Description
This recipe starts by seasoning chicken breasts lightly with salt and pepper and placing them in a slow cooker. A sauce made from honey, soy sauce, ketchup, sesame oil, sriracha, minced garlic, fresh grated ginger, and dried minced onion is whisked together and poured over the chicken. Cooking on low for several hours softens the chicken and allows the flavors to infuse.
After cooking, the chicken is removed, and the sauce is thickened on the stovetop by adding a cornstarch and water slurry and boiling until glossy and smooth. The chicken is then cut into pieces and returned to the thickened sauce to coat thoroughly. The final dish is topped with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions, adding a nutty crunch and fresh brightness.
This slow cooker method requires minimal active time and produces moist, tender chicken with a balanced sweet and savory sesame sauce. The amount of honey can be adjusted to preference, and reduced-sodium soy sauce is recommended for better salt control. More sriracha can be added to increase spiciness if desired.
