Small-batch Oreo Frosting

Small-batch Oreo Frosting combines finely crushed Oreo cookie crumbs with a creamy blend of softened butter and cream cheese, sweetened with powdered sugar. The frosting is fluffy yet thick enough to spread or pipe, offering a balance of sweet and slightly salty flavors enhanced by a pinch of salt and a splash of milk or cream to achieve the desired consistency. It's a good choice when you want just enough frosting to decorate a few cupcakes or cookies without leftovers.

Description

The Small-batch Oreo Frosting recipe uses one Oreo cookie broken into fine crumbs folded into a mixture of softened butter and cream cheese, which creates a smooth, creamy base. Powdered sugar sweetens the frosting while a pinch of salt balances the sweetness. A teaspoon of milk or cream is added to adjust the consistency, making it fluffy but spreadable. The texture comes from the cookie crumbs, which add a subtle crunch contrasting with the creamy frosting.

This frosting is ideal for decorating cupcakes, cookies, or other desserts in small quantities where a large batch is unnecessary. The method involves creaming butter and cream cheese until smooth, then incorporating sugar and crumbs carefully to avoid overmixing. You can pipe this frosting with a large star tip or spread it with a knife, depending on the desired presentation.

The recipe notes suggest using unsalted butter and adjusting salt accordingly, and it yields about three-quarters to one cup of frosting. This quantity covers roughly four to five cupcakes with large swirls or can be spread thinly on about eight cupcakes or cookies.

Notes

  • Use a large open star piping tip if you want decorative swirls on cupcakes.
  • Omit the added salt if you use salted butter to avoid over-salting.
  • This recipe makes roughly three-quarters to one cup of frosting, enough for about 4-5 generously frosted cupcakes or 8 cupcakes/cookies when spread thinly.
