Smoked Stuffed Pasta Shells with Italian Sausage and Ricotta

This recipe combines jumbo pasta shells stuffed with a savory mixture of browned Italian sausage, creamy ricotta, wilted spinach, Parmesan, and mozzarella cheese. The shells are layered in marinara sauce and then smoked at 325 degrees, allowing the flavors to meld and the cheese to melt into a rich filling. The smoking adds a subtle depth that sets this pasta dish apart from traditional baked versions.

Description

Smoked Stuffed Pasta Shells with Italian Sausage and Ricotta features a hearty filling combining crumbled Italian sausage, ricotta cheese, spinach, Parmesan, garlic, Italian seasoning, and mozzarella. The sausage is browned and combined with sautéed spinach and cheeses to create a creamy, flavorful stuffing. Jumbo shells are cooked and then filled with this mixture before being layered in marinara sauce inside a pan. The dish is topped with remaining sauce, a splash of water, and mozzarella cheese, then smoked at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Smoking introduces a nuanced, smoky undertone, enhancing the rich, cheesy filling and the tomato sauce. This technique results in a pasta dish with a tender texture inside the shells, melted cheeses, and balanced spices. Serve as a comforting entrée with a salad or garlic bread for a filling meal.
