Smoky Mezcal Margarita Recipe

The Smoky Mezcal Margarita blends mezcal with lime juice, agave syrup, and triple sec for a cocktail with smoky, tangy, and subtly sweet flavors. The drink features a salt-rimmed glass, often using Tajín for a spiced note. The agave simple syrup balances the mezcal's smoky profile, making it an interesting take on a classic margarita.

Description

This Smoky Mezcal Margarita Recipe combines two ounces of mezcal with fresh lime juice, agave syrup, and triple sec, stirred with ice and poured into a salt-rimmed glass. The rim uses margarita salt or Tajín to add a peripheral spice contrast to the smoky spirit. The agave simple syrup is prepared by dissolving agave syrup in warm water, making a smooth sweetener that blends with the tangy lime and earthy mezcal.

The flavor balances the mezcal's characteristic smokiness against citrus and sweetness, with the triple sec adding orange notes. The preparation involves rubbing the glass rim with lime before dipping into salt and mixing the cocktail ingredients over ice thoroughly. The result is a refreshing cocktail with both a smoky depth and bright citrus notes, suitable for cocktail sessions where mezcal’s unique character is appreciated.

This drink is garnished with a slice of lime, helping to carry fresh citrus aroma and further acidity with each sip. It’s a good choice for mezcal enthusiasts or those seeking a twist on the traditional margarita. The use of Tajín salt as the rim provides extra flavor complexity and a touch of heat.
