S'mores Cake
Description
The S'mores Cake starts with a traditional white cake base prepared from a box mix. After baking and partial cooling, holes are poked across the surface to help the marshmallow and chocolate mixture soak deeply into the cake. The filling is made by melting chocolate chips with marshmallows and butter, then combining this with sweetened condensed milk for a rich, sweet layer infused throughout the cake. This layering introduces a gooey texture and a blend of chocolate and marshmallow flavors.
A smooth chocolate cheesecake layer is then prepared by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, remaining condensed milk, and heavy cream. It's spread over the chocolate marshmallow-infused cake to provide a creamy contrast. Chilling the cake allows the layers to set and flavors to meld.
The cake is finished with decorative graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows, echoing the traditional campfire s'mores ingredients. This dessert can be served with ice cream or milk to balance its sweetness and richness.
Ingredients
- 1 box white cake mix (prepared as directed on the box)
- 14 marshmallows regular
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon butter unsalted
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz, divided)
- 2 cream cheese 8 ounce packages, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder unsweetened
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- graham crackers (chocolate and marshmallows to garnish)
Instructions
- Bake cake according to package instructions. Allow to partially cool on a wire rack.
- Poke holes with a wooden skewer or end of a wooden spoon. For this cake, the bigger the holes the better.
- Melt chocolate chips together with marshmallows, and tablespoon of butter on the stovetop over low heat, stirring continuously.
- Stir in 3/4 cup of condensed milk.
- Pour over the top of the cake, spreading around with a spoon to push the chocolate marshmallow mix into the holes.
- For the next layer, cream together cream cheese, powdered sugar and cocoa powder with a hand mixer until smooth.
- Add in remaining sweetened condensed milk and heavy whipping cream. Mix together.
- Spread the chocolate cheesecake layer of the chocolate marshmallow layer.
- Refrigerate for at least an hour prior to serving.
- Decorate with graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows before serving.
Notes
- Chill the cake for at least an hour to let the layers set properly.
- Use large holes when poking the cake to allow the marshmallow-chocolate mixture to penetrate well.
- Garnish with graham crackers and marshmallows just before serving for best presentation.
- Serving with milk or ice cream enhances the classic s'mores experience.
