S’Mores Campfire Banana Boats
Description
The bananas are sliced lengthwise while still in their peels to create a pocket for marshmallows, chocolate chips, and crushed graham crackers. Wrapping the stuffed banana in foil protects it from direct heat and allows the fillings to melt thoroughly when cooked over grill embers or in a 350°F oven. The heat transforms the marshmallows and chocolate into a melty, sweet filling, while the banana becomes soft and tender.
Banana Boats can be enjoyed immediately after cooking, with additional graham cracker crumbs optionally sprinkled on top for extra crunch. They serve well as a nostalgic campsite dessert or a backyard treat, offering a pleasant contrast between the melted, sticky fillings and the softened banana base.
For safety, use tongs to handle hot foil packets and be cautious when opening to avoid steam burns. If using a dying campfire, spread embers to maintain steady heat for even cooking. A layer of parchment paper inside the foil can keep the banana safe during cooking. These boats can also be made in an oven for a convenient indoor alternative.
Ingredients
- 4 banana
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- 2 Tbsp graham cracker crushed
- ¼ cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Slice bananas down the middle still in the peel.
- Open the slit and stuff in mini marshmallows.
- Top with a bit of chocolate chips and some crushed graham crackers
- Wrap in foil and cook over the grill on a fire until the whole banana is black.
- Remove and enjoy, you can top with more graham cracker crumbs if you want!
How To Make In Oven
- Assemble as normal through the wrapping portion of step 4.
- Preheat oven to 350F/180C and cook for 15-20 minutes.
Notes
- Avoid overstuffing bananas to ensure they can be easily wrapped and sealed in foil.
- Place parchment paper inside the foil wrap to protect the banana and help maintain food safety while cooking.
- When cooking over a campfire, position foil packets toppings side up on grill grates and use tongs to handle hot packets.
- If campfire embers decrease, spread them with a stick for consistent heat to cook the boats thoroughly.
- Be careful opening foil to avoid steam burns; foil cools quickly once removed from heat.
- These banana boats can also be cooked in a 350°F oven for 15-20 minutes as an indoor option.
