S'mores in the Oven

Oven-broiled S'mores recreate the classic campfire treat using toasted marshmallows and melted milk chocolate sandwiched between broken graham cracker halves. The method softens and browns the marshmallows under the broiler before assembling, providing warm melted chocolate and gooey marshmallow texture with a crisp cracker base.

Description

This recipe starts by heating the oven broiler to high and preparing a baking sheet with foil or parchment. Halved graham cracker pieces topped with large marshmallows are placed under the broiler until the marshmallows puff up and achieve a browned, bubbly surface. Immediately after removing from heat, each is topped with half a milk chocolate bar and covered with remaining graham cracker halves to form sandwiches. For a softer chocolate texture, the assembled s'mores can be returned briefly to the warm oven (off) to let the chocolate soften without melting excessively.

The combination delivers the familiar sweet contrast of crunchy, honey-flavored graham crackers, warm, soft, toasted marshmallows, and creamy chocolate. An optional salted caramel sauce can add a complimentary sweet-salty note for dipping. The approach avoids open flames while still achieving the classic s'more flavors and textures.

For variation, a kitchen torch may be used to toast the marshmallows evenly to preferred doneness when available.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 milk chocolate bar broken in half, Hershey's brand
  • 4 graham cracker squares broken in half, Honey Maid brand
  • 4 marshmallows large
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce optional, salted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven broiler to high. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy clean up (optional).
  2. Place two halves of a graham cracker on a baking sheet, topped by a marshmallow. Place under the broiler until marshmallow is brown and bubbly.
  3. Remove from the oven and immediately top each with half of a milk chocolate bar and the remaining graham cracker halves. If you want the chocolate more melty, place the whole tray back into the oven while it is off (just warm).
  4. Serve with caramel sauce for dipping (optional).
