Snowball Cookie Recipe

Snowball Cookies are tender, buttery shortbread-style cookies studded with chopped pecans and coated in powdered sugar. Their soft crumb and delicate nutty flavor make them a traditional treat enjoyed during holidays or year-round. The double coating of powdered sugar adds sweetness with a snowy appearance.

Description

This Snowball Cookie Recipe begins by creaming softened unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Into this base, all-purpose flour, salt, and chopped pecans are folded to form a soft dough. The dough is shaped into small balls and baked at 350°F until set but not browned, preserving their pale color and tender texture.

Once baked, the cookies are rolled first in powdered sugar while warm, then again after cooling to create a thick, delicate sweet coating. The pecans add crunchy texture and a rich, nutty dimension that contrasts with the melting crumb of the cookie.

Ideal for serving with tea or coffee, these cookies store well in an airtight container at room temperature for a week or can be frozen for several months. Chilling the dough before baking makes handling easier.

Chill dough for 30 minutes before rolling to make shaping easier.Store unbaked dough covered in the fridge for 1-2 days or freeze up to 3 months.Keep baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or freeze for 3-4 months.Allow frozen cookies to thaw at room temperature before serving.
