Snowball Cookies

Snowball Cookies are tender, buttery cookies with finely chopped walnuts that provide a delicate crunch. After baking until golden at the edges, the cookies are rolled in powdered sugar while still warm for a soft, snowy coating. This classic cookie has a crumbly texture and mild nutty flavor, making it a traditional treat often enjoyed around the holidays.

Description

Snowball Cookies feature a buttery dough mixed with finely chopped walnuts and a touch of vanilla for aroma. The flour and salt form the base, while powdered sugar is incorporated into the dough for sweetness and later used to coat the cookies. After shaping into uniform balls, they bake quickly at a high temperature just until the bottoms lightly brown, preserving a tender crumb inside.

Once removed from the oven and cooled slightly, the cookies are rolled in powdered sugar, which creates a characteristic white, soft coating that resembles snowballs. The crumbly texture contrasts with the subtle crunch of walnut pieces. These cookies are ideal for enjoying with tea or coffee.

Different nuts can replace walnuts without altering the cookie’s texture significantly. Chopping the nuts finely but not to powder helps maintain the desired crunch. Store the cookies properly to keep them fresh and maintain their powdery coating.
