Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter softened, salted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 egg yolk
  • teaspoons vanilla extract pure
  • ½ cup milk chocolate chips
  • cups M&M's divided, red and green

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Add the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar to a large mixing bowl or large bowl of an electric stand mixer. Cream the ingredients together until light and fluffy, using a hand mixer or the paddle attachment on a stand mixer.
  3. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla. Mix until well combined. Scrape down the side of the bowl as needed.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in 1 cup of M&M's and chocolate chips.
  6. Use a medium-sized cookie scoop, and scoop out the dough into balls, place them on the cookie sheet 1 inch apart. Use the remaining 1/2 cup of the M&M's and press them on top of the dough balls.
  7. Bake for 10-12 min. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on a cooling rack for 5 min.

Notes

  • Storage & Make Ahead
  • Make Ahead: You can freeze the dough for up to 3 months. Tightly wrap the dough with plastic wrap, place in a freezer bag or freezer-safe container, and store in the freezer. Thaw the dough on the counter for 30 minutes before scooping. Alternatively, flash-freeze the cookie dough balls on the baking tray and then transfer these to a freezer bag or freezer-safe container and store in the freezer. There's no need to thaw the dough balls, just bake them from the frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes to the baking time.
  • Store: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • Freeze: Freeze in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Make sure the cookies have cooled completely before freezing.
