Sour Cream Pound Cake

Sour Cream Pound Cake is a classic dense and moist cake made with a combination of flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and sour cream. The sour cream adds tenderness and a subtle tang, balancing the rich sweetness. Baked in a bundt pan, it develops a golden crust and tender crumb.

Description

This Sour Cream Pound Cake starts with creaming butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then gradually incorporating eggs for structure. Flour mixed with baking soda and salt is alternated with sour cream to maintain moisture and tenderness. Vanilla adds fragrance to the batter, which is baked slowly in a bundt pan to ensure even cooking.

The resulting cake has a dense yet tender crumb with a moist texture attributed to the sour cream. The baking soda gently leavens the cake, allowing for a subtle rise without becoming airy. Its buttery flavor is enhanced by the light tang from sour cream, making it versatile for serving plain or with accompaniments like fresh fruit or glaze.

The lengthy baking time at a moderate temperature develops a golden crust that contrasts with the soft interior. Cooling before slicing helps the cake set for clean cuts. This pound cake is a reliable base for variations including adding citrus zest or nuts.
