Southern Pecan Pie Bars

Southern Pecan Pie Bars combine a tender, buttery crust with a rich pecan filling made from eggs, brown sugar, maple syrup, and butter. The bars are baked until golden and set, offering a chewy, nutty dessert with the option of a salty finish. They can be chilled or frozen for later enjoyment, offering a convenient twist on classic pecan pie flavors.

Description

These Southern Pecan Pie Bars start with a crust made by creaming together sugar, softened butter, and flour, then baked until lightly golden. The filling is a blend of large eggs, brown sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, vanilla extract, and kosher salt whisked smoothly and combined with pecans.

The filling is poured over the pre-baked crust and baked until the center firms and the top develops a golden-brown hue. Once cooled, the bars can optionally be sprinkled with flaky sea salt to complement the sweet, nutty flavor profile. The texture is rich and dense, with crunchy pecan pieces throughout.

Serving these bars chilled enhances their firmness and makes them easy to slice neatly. They store well refrigerated or frozen, making them suitable for advance preparation or longer storage.

The notes advise cooling completely before freezing and recommend airtight containers for preservation up to three months.
