Spaghetti Bolognese
Description
This Spaghetti Bolognese begins by browning ground beef and Italian sausage to develop flavor and texture. Aromatic vegetables – onions, garlic, celery, and carrots – are sautéed until softened, then combined with tomato paste and butter to enhance depth. The sauce is built from crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, milk, red wine, Italian herbs, spices, and Parmesan cheese, which enrich and balance acidity and umami.
The browned meats return to the pot and the sauce simmers gently for 35-45 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken. The end result is a savory, hearty ragu with tender meat distributed throughout a rich tomato base. It’s traditionally served over thick spaghetti noodles cooked to al dente, but other pasta shapes also work well.
This combination offers texture contrast from the minced vegetables and cheese with richness from milk and wine, making a full-bodied sauce ideal for a family meal or casual dinner.
