Spicy Bourbon Chicken

Spicy Bourbon Chicken is made with cubed chicken breast or thighs sautéed in sesame oil, then simmered in a sauce of soy, bourbon, brown sugar, and spices. The sauce is thickened with a cornstarch slurry, yielding a glossy, flavorful coating with hints of sweet, heat, and umami. The garnish of sesame seeds and green onions adds texture and freshness. Serve it over rice or noodles to absorb the savory sauce, making it a warming and balanced main dish.

Description

Spicy Bourbon Chicken combines tender pieces of chicken cooked in a mixture of soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, and spices including garlic, ginger, chili powder, and red pepper flakes. The cooking process starts by sautéing the chicken in sesame oil until browned, then adding aromatics, followed by the sauce which simmers to meld the flavors. A cornstarch slurry thickens the sauce to a syrupy consistency that clings to the chicken. The resulting dish balances sweetness and spice with a depth from bourbon and savory soy.

The texture features tender, juicy chicken coated in a thick, flavorful glaze with a mild kick from the chili powder and red pepper flakes. The sesame seeds and green onions sprinkled on top contribute a contrasting crunch and freshness.

This chicken pairs well with steamed rice or noodles that soak up the rich sauce. The recipe is suitable for an at-home dinner that provides a satisfying balance of sweet, spicy, and savory tastes.
