Spicy Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita
Description
This cocktail starts by rimming the glass with lime and coating it in Tajin seasoning for a spicy, tangy edge. Fresh cucumber and lime slices are muddled with jalapeño slices and sugar to release juice and integrate flavors. Tequila blanco and orange liqueur (such as Cointreau) are added to this mixture.
Ice is introduced and the cocktail is shaken well to chill and combine ingredients fully. The shaker method influences the intensity of heat extracted from the jalapeño, with longer shaking increasing spiciness. The resulting drink is strained into an ice-filled rocks glass with the spicy rim.
Optional garnishes like cucumber slices or fresh mint can be added. This cocktail offers a layered flavor profile with cool, tart, sweet, and spicy notes, and can be made in small batches for balanced preparation.
Notes advise preparing small batches due to shaker space limits but mention a pitcher variation using agua fresca and liquors with jalapeño slices for larger gatherings without muddling.
Ingredients
- 8 lices cucumber
- 4 lices lime
- 1 ounce lime juice fresh
- 2-3 lices jalapeño
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 ounces tequila blanco
- 1 ounce Cointreau or orange liqueur of choice
- tajin seasoning
- ice
Instructions
- Rub a wedge of lime around the rim of the glass and the dip the outside of the rim of the glass in Tajin.
- In a cocktail shaker, add cucumber slices, lime slices, lime juice, jalapeno slices, and sugar
- Muddle together, squashing everything to release the juices.
- Add tequila and orange liquor.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until combined, about 15 to 30 seconds. The longer you shake, the spicier it will become.
- Strain into an ice-filled, spicy-rimmed rocks glass. Garnish as desired with cucumbers and mint, if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- Prepare no more than two margaritas at once by muddling and shaking for best flavor extraction and mixing.
- You can pre-mix tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice for quick batch preparation; add fresh muddled ingredients before shaking.
- For larger groups, make a pitcher with cucumber agua fresca, tequila, Cointreau, and jalapeño slices; this version won't have muddled heat but keeps the flavor profile.
