Spicy Margarita Recipe (Jalapeno Margarita)

This spicy margarita uses tequila shaken with fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, agave nectar, and jalapeno slices to infuse heat. Served with a salt and Tajin spice rim and garnished with lime and additional jalapeno, it balances citrus sharpness with peppery warmth for a bold cocktail option.

Description

The Spicy Margarita blends tequila with freshly squeezed lime juice and orange liqueur, sweetened by agave nectar. Jalapeno slices are muddled in the shaker to release their spice, infusing the drink with a medium heat level. After shaking to mix and chill, the cocktail is strained into a glass rimmed with a mix of salt and Tajin seasoning, enhancing the spicy and citrus flavors.

This drink features a refreshing tartness from lime balanced by the crisp pepper flavor and a touch of sweetness. The optional addition of extra jalapeno or habanero slices increases heat for those who prefer a spicier profile.

It's served chilled in a salt-spiced rim glass, garnished with lime wedges and jalapeno slices to complement the drink’s bold flavors. This cocktail is suited for occasions where a lively, spicy twist on a classic margarita is desired.

Adjust the number of jalapeno slices based on heat tolerance. Make sure to muddle gently to avoid overly bitter extracts. Using fresh lime juice is key to balancing flavors.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. lime juice about 2 small limes, freshly squeezed
  • .5 ounce orange liqueur
  • .5 ounce agave nectar (or use honey or simple syrup)
  • 3-4 jalapeno pepper or more to taste - add sliced habanero for EXTRA spicy, slices
  • jalapeno pepper extra slices for serving; lime wedges and wedge to rim the glass; Tajin seasoning for serving
  • lime
  • tajin seasoning
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Add the spicy chili peppers to a shaker and muddle slightly if desired.
  2. Add the tequila, lime juice, agave nectar and several cubes of ice. Shake well. Give it a good 30 seconds of shaking to really infuse the tequila.
  3. Rub a lime wedge around the top of your margarita glass. Pour the salt and tajin seasoning onto a small plate, then dip the glass into it to coat the rim. The lime juice will help the salt-tajin mixture stick.
  4. Strain the liquid into the margarita glass.
  5. Garnish with a lime wedge and extra jalapeno slices, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Medium heat level achieved with jalapeno peppers; add habanero slices for stronger spice.
  • Use fresh lime juice for best citrus flavor and balance.
  • Rimming the glass with salt and Tajin enhances the savory and spicy notes.
