Spicy Sweet Potato Fries Recipe
Description
The Spicy Sweet Potato Fries Recipe combines thin strips of sweet potatoes tossed in olive oil and a spice mix including smoked paprika, garlic granules, cayenne pepper, and sea salt. Baking them at a high temperature balances tenderness with some crispy edges, creating a pleasing contrast in texture. The accompanying harissa mayonnaise, made by mixing harissa paste with mayonnaise and a pinch of garlic granules, adds a spicy and creamy element that enhances the fries' flavor. These fries are versatile and can be served as a side dish or a hearty snack.
Baking time is flexible to suit texture preferences, with longer baking yielding crispier fries. The harissa mayo can be adjusted to the desired heat level, and the recipe notes offer guidance for a plant-based alternative by substituting vegan mayonnaise. This condiment pairs well with the bold spices seasoning the fries.
Ingredients
- 2 medium sweet potato cut into thin strips
- 2 tablespoons olive oil divided
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic granules
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
The Harissa Mayo
- ¼ cup mayonnaise see notes
- 1 tablespoon harissa paste
- ¼ teaspoon garlic granules
- 1 pinch salt sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Put the sweet potato strips in a large bowl and toss them with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic granules, cayenne peppers, and sea salt.
- Spread the spicy sweet potato fries in a single layer on the baking sheet and drizzle the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over the top.
- Bake the fries for 25-30 minutes. We prefer ours when some are soft and a few are crispy. If you'd like them crispier, leave them in the oven a little longer, just make sure to keep an eye so they don't burn.
- Make the harissa mayo when the fries are baking. Combine the ingredients in a small bowl. Taste and add more harissa if your tongue can handle it.
- Serve the fries straight out of the oven with the mayo on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Vegan mayonnaise can be used as a substitute to make the dish plant-based.
- Adjust the baking time for softer or crispier fries, watching closely to prevent burning.
- Harissa paste quantity can be increased for a spicier dipping sauce based on taste preferences.
