Ssamjang Recipe
Description
This Ssamjang Recipe mixes Korean fermented soybean paste and chili paste to create a flavorful base. Toasted sesame oil adds richness, while honey balances the spice with a touch of sweetness. The addition of minced garlic and thinly sliced onions infuses sharpness and depth. Chopped walnuts and finely diced apple contribute nuttiness and a subtle sweetness that soften the robust fermented flavors.
All ingredients are processed until smooth, yielding a thick sauce with both creamy and slightly textured elements from the nuts and apple pieces. The sauce can be garnished with optional sliced green onions, fresh chilies, and extra toasted sesame seeds for added aroma and heat. Ssamjang is commonly served alongside grilled meats and leafy vegetable wraps, enhancing the savory and spicy profile of Korean BBQ dishes.
Using fresh sesame oil and nuts is important to avoid rancid flavors that can spoil the sauce. This recipe can be customized with alternative nuts or omitted ingredients based on preference.
