Stove-Top Candied Pecans
Description
This recipe starts by stirring a mixture of brown sugar, water, salt, cinnamon, and almond extract in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the syrup bubbles. Pecans are then added and cooked while stirring to coat them thoroughly. The mixture is allowed to reduce slightly to adhere well without burning. Once coated, the pecans are spread onto parchment paper to cool and harden into a sweet, crunchy candy coating.
The final candied pecans have a crisp texture with a warm spice note from the cinnamon and a subtle depth from the almond extract. They are suitable for snacking, salads, desserts, or garnishing various dishes requiring a sweet nut crunch.
Once cooled, the pecans can be stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks, preserving their crunch and flavor. This recipe provides a quick method to make candied nuts without baking, relying on stove-top caramelization.
Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp almond extract or vanilla extract
- 2 cup pecan halves or chopped
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients except the pecans in a non-stick skillet and stir well over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is bubbly.
- Add the pecans and cook, stirring to coat the pecans in the syrup. Allow to reduce, stirring occasionally to ensure the pecans and syrup don't burn, for about 5 minutes.
- Remove from the heat, and pour the pecans out on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, spreading them into one layer with a silicone spatula, to let the pecans cool. Once completely cooled down, break apart and keep in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks.
