Strawberry Cheesecake Crescent Rolls
Description
This recipe involves spreading softened cream cheese, strawberry jam, and fresh chopped strawberries onto unrolled crescent roll dough. The dough sections are then rolled up to enclose the filling, brushed with egg wash, and sprinkled with turbinado sugar, which adds a light caramel sweetness and texture on top. Baking at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes yields crescent rolls with a golden crust and luscious, sweet interior. Using turbinado sugar contributes a slight caramel flavor but can be substituted with coconut sugar for a similar effect.
These rolls can be prepared ahead of time and chilled in the refrigerator before baking to reduce jam leakage. The assembled, unbaked crescents also freeze well, first flash freezing individually on a baking sheet then storing them wrapped. This allows for convenient baking on demand. Baked rolls freeze well too, and can be reheated in the oven. Overall, these crescent rolls pair well with breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack.
Ingredients
- 8 ounce crescent rolls 1 can (I used Pillsbury crescent rolls)
- 4 ounce cream cheese
- 8 teaspoon strawberry jam seedless
- ½ cup strawberries chopped
- 1 egg for egg wash
- 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (or regular granulated sugar) for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375℉. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silpat and set aside.
- Microwave the cream cheese for about 30 seconds, just enough so that it's easily spreadable.
- Sprinkle your work surface with a bit of flour. Unroll the crescent rolls and lay them flat on your floured work surface. Top each crescent with about 1 tbsp of cream cheese, about 1 tsp of the strawberry jam and about a tbsp of strawberries. Roll up the crescents and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush each roll with the egg wash, then sprinkle them with a bit of Turbinado sugar or granulated sugar.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- Turbinado sugar offers a light caramel flavor but can be substituted with coconut sugar if unavailable.
- To prevent jam from leaking during baking, chill the prepared crescent rolls in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before baking.
- Assemble and freeze unbaked crescent rolls by first freezing them on a baking sheet individually for about an hour, then wrapping and storing in the freezer up to one month.
- Baked crescent rolls also freeze well and can be reheated in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
