Strawberry Chocolate Breakfast Parfait
Description
The Strawberry Chocolate Breakfast Parfait starts with a strawberry sauce made by gently cooking chopped strawberries with honey and vanilla until slightly thickened. This sauce is then cooled and combined with fresh sliced strawberries to maintain some texture. The assembly involves layering fresh strawberries, chocolate granola or cubed chocolate muffins, and vanilla Greek yogurt alternately, topped with the prepared strawberry sauce. Whipped topping may be added for extra richness. The combination balances creamy, crunchy or soft, and fruity elements, creating a layered breakfast treat.
The parfait offers a sweet yet fresh experience from the vanilla yogurt and strawberries complemented by the chocolate granola or muffins. Preparing the strawberry sauce ahead allows flavors to develop and cool properly before layering. This parfait can be served in jars or glasses, making it visually appealing and convenient for portioning. It works well for a morning meal, brunch, or a light dessert.
Variations include using any yogurt flavor or substituting frozen berries. Adjust the quantity of strawberry sauce for extra moisture or reduce it for a drier texture. Leftovers keep for up to two days refrigerated when covered.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chocolate granola or chocolate muffins
- 2 cups Greek yogurt vanilla flavor
- 1 cup strawberry sliced, fresh
- 4 tablespoons whipped topping optional
Strawberry Sauce
- 1 pint strawberries divided
- 1 ½ tablespoons honey or sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Strawberry Sauce
- Wash and chop strawberries into small pieces. Add honey, vanilla, and ⅔ of the chopped strawberries to a medium saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat until juices are released and slightly thickened (about 12-15 minutes). Sauce will thicken more while cooling.
- Stir in remaining strawberries and remove from heat. Cool completely.
Assembly
- Layer ¼ cup of fresh sliced strawberries on the bottom of each container.
- If using muffins, cut them into cubes. Place a layer of granola or muffins on top of the strawberries.
- Top with ¼ cup Greek yogurt and 2 tablespoons strawberry sauce.
- Repeat layers. Top with whipped topping if desired.
Notes
- Any yogurt flavor can be substituted according to preference.
- Frozen strawberries can replace fresh berries in the sauce if needed.
- The strawberry sauce adds a soft berry texture, but can be omitted in favor of fresh sliced strawberries.
- Adjust the amount of strawberry sauce to preference or double it for more sauce.
- Quantities may need slight adjustment depending on the size and shape of your serving containers.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to two days.
