Strawberry Jalapeño Margaritas

Strawberry Jalapeño Margaritas combine fresh strawberries and a spicy kick from thinly sliced jalapeños to create a vibrant cocktail with a balance of sweet, tart, and heat. The preparation includes muddling fruit and jalapeños with lime juice and sugar before mixing with silver tequila and triple sec. The cocktail is served in glasses rimmed with lime zest and sugar or salt, optionally topped with club soda or ginger beer for effervescence. This cocktail suits those wanting a refreshing drink with a subtle spicy edge and fruity depth.

Description

Strawberry Jalapeño Margaritas bring together fresh ingredients like hulled and chopped strawberries, freshly squeezed lime juice, and sliced jalapeño peppers to deliver a cocktail with a unique blend of sweet fruitiness and mild heat. The mixture of tequila and triple sec adds traditional margarita flavors, while the lime and sugar or salt rim enhance each sip. Preparation involves muddling the fruit and jalapeño to release their flavors, then combining with alcohol and serving over ice. The option to add bubble like club soda or ginger beer gives a light, fizzy texture. Garnishes of lime wedges and strawberries finish the presentation, making it suitable for casual gatherings or summer enjoyment.

The balance of sweetness from strawberries and hints of jalapeño heat depends on removing seeds and membranes to moderate spice. The margaritas can be made in advance to allow flavors to meld or infused by soaking jalapeño slices in tequila for a spicier profile. The use of fresh lime and zest in the rim adds citrus brightness. Choosing to add bubbles at serving keeps the cocktail fresh and fizzy.

The method includes crafting a lime rim using zest mixed with sugar or salt and sticky agave nectar, which clings the rim garnish to the glassware. Muddling the strawberries, jalapeños, and lime juice releases juice and oils that infuse the drink. The final presentation is enhanced with ice and garnishes, contributing to a well-rounded cocktail experience that highlights fresh ingredients and controlled heat.

Ingredients

Servings

Lime Rim

  • lime zest of 1
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar or kosher salt
  • 1 tsp agave nectar for garnishing

Margaritas

  • 6 strawberry hulled and chopped, large
  • lime juice about 1/3 cup, juice of 3 limes
  • 1 jalapeno pepper sliced thinly
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 3 ounce tequila silver
  • 1 ounce triple sec or orange juice
  • ice cubes
  • club soda optional, or ginger beer

Instructions

  1. Mix together the lime zest and sugar or salt for the lime rim on a shallow dish or plate.
  2. Dip the glass into a bit of agave nectar on a plate to coat the rim completely, then coat the nectar in the lime and sugar/salt. Repeat with a second glass. Add ice, a few garnishing jalapeno slices, and set aside.
  3. In a cocktail mixing glass, muddle together the strawberries, most of the jalapeño slices, and the lime juice with the granulated sugar until the strawberries are well broken down and juicy.
  4. Stir in the tequila and triple sec or orange juice and use your cocktail strainer to pour the cocktail into your prepared glasses. Top with bubbly mixins if using.
  5. Garnish with lime wedges and strawberries and serve cold.

Notes

  • This cocktail can be prepared up to two days ahead and stored in an airtight container, allowing flavors to deepen.
  • For more pronounced spice, infuse tequila with jalapeño slices for one hour before mixing.
  • Remove jalapeño seeds and membranes to keep the heat mild and avoid overpowering the drink.
  • Add club soda or ginger beer only at serving time to maintain fizz and freshness.
  • Microwaving limes briefly and rolling them before juicing yields more juice, especially for older limes.
  • The recipe scales well; increase jalapeños and strawberries proportionally for multiple servings.
