Strawberry Matcha Latte
Description
The Strawberry Matcha Latte is prepared by whisking ceremonial grade matcha powder into hot water to fully dissolve the tea, optionally sweetened with sugar, and then blended with cold milk. Separately, a cold foam is whipped by combining strawberry syrup or purée with heavy cream, milk, and sweetener until thick and pink. Layering the pink strawberry cold foam over ice, then carefully pouring the green matcha latte on top, provides a beautiful contrast and distinct textures.
The resulting drink offers the vegetal and slightly bitter qualities of matcha balanced by the sweet and fruity strawberry foam. Fresh strawberry slices garnish the glass, enhancing both the presentation and the fresh flavor profile. This layered cold latte is served chilled for a refreshing treat, suitable for a special occasion or an indulgent everyday drink.
The matcha portion and strawberry syrup can be prepared ahead and stored refrigerated in airtight containers, but the cold foam should be whipped immediately before serving to retain its airy texture and appearance.
Ingredients
Matcha Latte
- 1 matcha powder ceremonial grade, rounded tsp
- 1/3 cup water hot
- 1 tsp sugar optional
- 1/4 cup milk cold
Strawberry Cold Foam
- 1/4 cup Strawberry Syrup puréed, or 4-5 ripe strawberries
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 milk
- 1 tbsp sweetener or as needed
- strawberries for garnish, sliced
Instructions
- Using the milk frother, whisk together a scoop of matcha powder and hot water until well combined and the powder is completely dissolved. If using sugar, whisk in. Add milk and blend. Set aside.
- Use the milk frother again to whip up the strawberry syrup/puree with the heavy cream, milk, and sugar until it becomes thickened and pink.
- Add ice to a glass and garnish the glass with slices of strawberries for a pretty presentation. Pour the pink sweet cream into the glass, and then carefully pour the green tea latte over the pink layer. If you want to create distinct layers, pour the matcha layer over the back of a spoon over the strawberry layer.
- Garnish with strawberries and serve up nice and cold.
Notes
- Use your preferred milk type; the recipe works with various milk alternatives.
- Substitute heavy cream with cashew cream or coconut milk for different flavors; coconut adds a noticeable coconut taste.
- Choose your sweetener such as maple syrup, honey, or monk fruit according to preference.
- Make the matcha latte and strawberry syrup a day ahead and store in airtight containers in the fridge.
- Whip the strawberry cold foam fresh just before serving to maintain its texture and appearance.
