Ingredients

  • 10-12 Cabbage leaves
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 egg beaten
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup onion chopped fine
  • 1 pound extra-lean ground turkey meat ground beef or ground pork
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cloves of garlic minced
  • 16 ounces tomato sauce 2 8-oz cans
  • 14.5 ounces diced or crushed tomatoes with liquid
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. In a large pot, boil the entire head of cabbage for 10 minutes. (remove the core first) If any leaves separate during boiling, just remove them with a fork.
  3. Drain the cabbage and cool. Then peel away 10-12 leaves when cool.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the rice, raw ground meat, egg, milk, onion, garlic powder and pepper.
  5. Scoop a ¼ cup of this mixture into the center of each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking the ends in well.
  6. Place them in a lightly greased 9x13 baking dish.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees F.
