Description
Sugar Cookie Frosting is a creamy, sweet topping intended to complement sugar cookies. It starts with a base of softened unsalted butter mixed with a large amount of powdered sugar to provide sweetness and structure. Milk is gradually added to achieve a smooth, spreadable or pipeable consistency. Vanilla and almond extracts add depth of flavor, with almond imparting a delicate nutty accent.
The frosting can be colored with food coloring to customize the appearance for different occasions. This flexibility allows for both spreading by knife or applying with piping tips. Its texture can be thinned by adding more milk or thickened by adding more powdered sugar, depending on the desired use.
The frosting can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or in the freezer for up to three months. It should be brought to room temperature and stirred before use for the best spreading or piping results.
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter softened
- 4½ cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup milk plus more as needed
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
- Food Coloring
Instructions
- Mix softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract with a hand mixer. Add more milk until it’s the desired consistency. Add food coloring (optional)
- Spread on top of cookies with a knife or piping bag. Top it with delicious Jimmy sprinkles, and enjoy!!
Notes
- Adjust the frosting thickness by adding more milk to thin or more powdered sugar to thicken as needed for spreading or piping.
