Sugar Free French Toast
Description
This recipe starts by preparing a thicker keto bread using a microwave container to double the standard 90 Second Keto Bread batch for a suitable toast base. The bread is cooled before being soaked in a mixture of beaten eggs, almond milk, and a sweetener combined with cinnamon for warmth and sweetness. The soaked bread slices are then pan-fried in butter over medium-low heat, carefully monitoring to avoid burning the cinnamon. Fried to a golden brown on each side, the French toast is sliced into triangles and served with optional toppings.
The absence of sugar makes this recipe appropriate for a sugar-free or ketogenic diet while maintaining the flavors associated with traditional French toast. Butter frying adds richness and a crisp texture on the outside while the interior remains tender from the egg-soaked bread.
Toppings such as powdered sweetener, sugar-free syrup, caramel sauce, or fresh berries can be added for additional flavor without adding sugar.
Ingredients
- 2 batches keto bread 90 Second
- 1 egg large
- 2 tablespoon almond milk
- 1 tablespoon granulated sweetener
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Make the 90 second keto bread, but double the ingredients to make the bread thicker. For this recipe I used a 14 x 12 x 5 cm microwaveable container. Simply stir together all ingredients and microwave for 90 seconds on high.
- Prepare the egg mix. In a mixing bowl whisk the eggs and almond milk with a fork.
- Once the keto bread is cooled, soak in the egg mix. Mix the cinnamon and sweetener in a small bowl and sprinkle over both sides of the soaked bread.
- Melt the butter in a skillet / non stick frying pan over medium / low heat. Fry until golden brown (about 1 - 2 minutes on each side). Keep checking it so the cinnamon doesn’t burn.
- Slice into triangles and serve with toppings of your choice.
Notes
- This recipe makes one very generous portion containing approximately 7g net carbs.
- Use a toast-sized microwave-safe container to make thicker keto bread; otherwise, use two ramekins or mugs to achieve size.
- Serve with sugar-free toppings like powdered sweetener, syrup, or caramel sauce, or with a small portion of fresh berries for added flavor.
