Sugarless Apple Pie

The Sugarless Apple Pie uses delicious peeled and sliced apples simmered with frozen apple juice, cornstarch, and cinnamon to create a naturally sweet filling without added sugar. Baked inside a pie crust and topped with butter after baking, this pie offers a tender, lightly spiced apple filling inside a flaky pastry shell. Suitable for those avoiding sugar, it maintains the traditional texture and comforting apple-cinnamon flavor expected in an apple pie.

Description

The Sugarless Apple Pie features a sugar-free filling made by simmering peeled and sliced apples with frozen apple juice, thickened with cornstarch, and seasoned with cinnamon. This mixture softens as it cooks before being placed inside a pie crust and topped with another crust layer. Baking at 350 degrees for 45 minutes results in a tender fruit filling encased in golden, flaky pastry. A light basting of butter after baking adds richness to the crust's surface.

This pie presents a mild cinnamon and natural apple sweetness without added sugars, making it a suitable dessert for those monitoring sugar intake. The butter topping enhances the crust’s flavor and appearance. Serve it as a classic dessert or alongside breakfast dishes requiring a mildly sweet fruit component.

The recipe has origins from a family archive and offers a way to enjoy apple pie flavor without sugar. The filling simmers briefly to soften the apples and thicken the sauce, ensuring the pie is not watery. The butter basted on the crust after baking must be done promptly for best absorption and flavor. Use fresh pie crusts and tart yet sweet apples like Delicious for best results.
