Summer Peach Crisp

Summer Peach Crisp features fresh or canned peaches topped with a buttery, crumbly mixture of brown sugar, flour, oatmeal, and baking powder. Baked until golden brown, the crisp topping contrasts with the tender fruit filling flavored with cinnamon and lemon juice. Served warm with vanilla ice cream, it highlights seasonal peaches in a comforting dessert.

Description

To prepare Summer Peach Crisp, peaches are combined with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice to enhance their natural sweetness and brightness. The filling is placed into a baking dish, where a topping made from cold butter, brown sugar, flour, oatmeal, and a touch of baking powder is crumbled over it. The topping's texture provides a crunchy, golden crust that contrasts with the soft peach base.

The assembled crisp is baked at 350°F until the topping turns golden and the peach filling bubbles gently. It is commonly served warm, often with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to add creaminess and coolness against the warm fruit and crunchy topping.

Variations include smaller single-serve ramekin portions with added dried fruits like raisins or craisins and a granola topping for quick, individual desserts. This recipe works well with fresh peaches when in season or canned unsweetened peaches as a convenient alternative.
