Super Delicious Basic Chocolate Cake Base
Description
In this recipe, cake flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder are sifted together for an even rise and gentle chocolate taste. Eggs and caster sugar are whipped until frothy, creating lift and lightness. Adding warm melted butter, milk, and vanilla contributes moisture and flavor depth to the batter. The finished cake bakes at 180°C for about 30 minutes until a skewer test confirms doneness.
The texture is soft yet structured enough to hold fillings like creams or frostings once cooled. This basic cake is a versatile foundation for many chocolate cakes, as suggested by its name.
A key tip is using room temperature ingredients, especially eggs, to improve emulsification and achieve a better rise and texture in the cake.
Ingredients
- 150 g cake flour
- 150 ml milk
- 40 g cocoa powder
- 80 g butter
- 16 g baking powder
- 3 egg
- 150 g caster sugar
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Lightly grease a 22cm round baking tray with butter.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan, and put aside. It's important that the butter's warm when we use it in the next few minutes.
- Sift flour, cocoa and baking powder all together in a bowl.
- Whip the eggs together with the caster sugar, until you reach a clear, frothy mixture in a separate bowl.
- Add the milk and vanilla extract in your mix from step #5.
- Add the flour, cocoa and yeast to the above mixture, which was previously sieved.
- And finally, add the butter and continue mixing.
- Pour the mix into the cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a wooden skewer in the middle is clean.
- Let it cool down completely before stuffing with the cream of your choice.
Notes
- Use all ingredients at room temperature, particularly eggs, to ensure better mixing and rising.
- To quickly bring eggs to room temperature, run them under warm water for about a minute before use.
