Sweet and Sour Meatballs

These Sweet and Sour Meatballs use ground pork or chicken mixed with aromatic minced ginger and garlic, lightly seasoned, then pan-fried to golden brown. Tossed in a tangy sauce combining ketchup, Thai sweet chili sauce, vinegar, and soy, they balance savory and sweet flavors with a smooth, glossy coating that complements the juicy meatballs. This dish works well as a flavorful main or an appetizer.

Description

The meatball mixture includes ground pork or chicken combined with finely minced ginger and garlic, five-spice powder (optional), sesame oil, white pepper, and salt. The meatballs are shaped by hand and fried until golden, creating a crisp exterior while maintaining tender centers. The sweet and sour sauce is cooked separately to thicken before the meatballs are added to coat thoroughly.

The sauce blends ketchup, Thai sweet chili sauce, rice vinegar, soy sauce, water, and a cornstarch slurry that thickens to a glossy finish. Cooking the onion briefly before adding the sauce adds subtle sweetness.

This dish can be served immediately while warm and pairs nicely with rice or noodles to soak up the flavorful sauce. The method provides a balanced taste combining sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy notes.
