Sweet and Sour Pork Recipe

This Sweet and Sour Pork Recipe features browned pork steak pieces cooked with a tangy sauce made from pineapple juice, vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Green peppers and pineapple chunks add color and sweetness, while cornstarch helps thicken the sauce. The pork remains tender after simmering and is served over hot cooked rice, making it a balanced one-pan meal with sweet, sour, and savory flavors.

Description

Sweet and Sour Pork begins by browning pork steak pieces seasoned with paprika in shortening, which forms a flavorful crust. The pork then simmers covered until tender. Meanwhile, a sauce is prepared by blending reserved pineapple juice, vinegar, water, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt to the right consistency.

This sauce is gradually added to the pork skillet and cooked over low heat until it thickens and coats the meat well. The addition of green pepper strips and pineapple chunks introduces fresh vegetable texture and sweet pineapple flavor, balancing the tangy and savory elements. The dish simmers further until the vegetables are tender but still hold shape.

Serving this sweet and sour pork over freshly cooked rice rounds out the meal with a neutral base to absorb the sauce. The combination of tender pork, sweet pineapple, and tangy sauce gives this recipe a classic flavor profile popular in home cooking.
