Sweet and Sour Sauce Recipe
Description
The recipe combines pineapple juice, water, vinegar, brown sugar, white sugar, salt, ketchup, and soy sauce in a pot brought to a low boil. This mixture delivers a sweet, tart, and slightly savory flavor profile characteristic of sweet and sour sauces.
A cornstarch slurry made by whisking cornstarch with water is then added to the boiling pot. Simmering for several minutes allows the sauce to thicken and develop a glossy, smooth texture suitable for coating dishes.
This sauce can be used as a dip or poured over stir-fried meats and vegetables to add a balanced sweet and tart flavor that enhances the dish without overpowering it.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup pineapple juice
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- In a medium pot add the pineapple juice, water, vinegar, sugars, salt, soy sauce and ketchup. Bring to a low boil.
- In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch with the water. Pour this into the boiling mixture and simmer for about 3-5 minutes.
- Sauce will be bubble and thicken when it's ready.
